AIRCO GOLF COURSE (727-573-4653)
Florida Golf Course Review 2/25/06
Airco Golf Course in Clearwater is a value-based golf course that is always open for public play. This par 72
design is centrally located near the St Pete/ Clearwater Airport, and is a player friendly layout that presents a
nice opportunity for families to play a round together, or for an enjoyable opening round on a West Florida golf trip.
There are four sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6678 yards, 6241 yards, 5910 yards and
4749 yards. A practice green is on property, and clubhouse facilities include a discount golf shop featuring clubs
, balls, a selection of shoes and golf attire & accessories. The snack bar/lounge serves all the regular bar beverages plus hot and cold sandwiches - including those of the breakfast variety.
Four ponds on the course create water hazards that come into play on 7 holes, with just 1 forced carry off the tee
on the short par four sixth. The layout is tree lined but not densely, and a scattering of palms provides an
aesthetic quality as well. The terrain here is relatively flat, although there is some fairway mounding, and the
green complexes are slightly raised. Generally, the putting surfaces are mildly sloped and open in front, with plenty of recovery room on either side.
Bunkering is understated, with just 14 sand traps located along the layout. There are some doglegs that keep the
design (which runs along the airport) interesting, but on the whole this is a very player friendly golf experience -
great for beginners and casual players. Cart paths and fairways have yardage markers at 100, 150 and 200
yards, and 150 yard stakes are visible on all par fours and fives. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and
back hole locations on the medium sized putting surfaces. The course is centrally located near the St
Pete/Clearwater Airport. For more info including a map and directions, visit our page for the course by clicking here.
