ATLANTIS COUNTRY CLUB (561-968-1300)
Florida Golf Course Review 12/10/05
Atlantis Country Club is a Dick Wilson/Robert Simmons design featuring tree lined fairways and small green complexes that are well-guarded by numerous sand bunkers. Located 5 miles south of the Palm
BeachInternationalAirport, Atlantis is reminiscent of southern courses and with four sets of tee boxes, presents a
challenge that can be enjoyed by all levels of players. This course has been rated with 4 stars out of 5 by Golf Digest Places to Play.
The Property includes a full service practice facility with golf schools and lessons available from PGA and LPGA
professionals. There are two practice greens and a grass range, plus a clubhouse with pro shop, locker room
facilities with showers, and Garden Room & Grill which is open for lunch, dinner and for private parties. A snack
bar adjacent to the pro shop also serves breakfast and lunch menus. There are two private rooms that can
accommodate from 40 to 80 guests, and the main facility can host up to 200 people (175 with a dance floor).
Golfers can play from distances and slopes that measure 6610 yards/137 slope, 6060 yards/130 slope, 5701
yards/122 slope, and 5242 yards with a slope of 125 for ladies using the forward tees. Though not overly long,
the course presents numerous doglegs bending in either direction, with holes framed by dense clusters of
massive oaks, fiscus and native pine trees. As with most SE Florida courses, numerous trees were lost during
the hurricane season, but there are plans in place to replace them. The greens at Atlantis are often elevated, and
well protected by sand, with 100 bunkers in total located near the landing zones on the fairways or greenside.
Water comes into play on nine holes, though few forced carries are needed. Golfers often are confronted with
approach shots featuring water on one side and thick strands of mature trees on the other. A series of canals
also crosses the fairways on several holes. Color coded flags help to indicate front, middle and back hole
locations on the medium-sized, mildly undulating putting surfaces, and sprinkler heads scattered about the
course provide yardages to the center of the green. There are yardage blocks at 100, 150 and 200 yards both
on the fairways and cat paths. Covers on the backs of carts provide protection for clubs during inclement weather.
With nice conditioning and friendly service, Atlantis offers a three-star semi-private golf experience - a value
round with affordable rates offered to the public year round, that top out at $95 including cart during the winter in
2006. Callaway club and Footjoy shoe rentals are available. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to the property's website by clicking here.
