BONITASPRINGS GOLF CLUB (239-992-2800)
Florida Golf Course Review 10/16/05
Bonita Springs Golf Club is a semi-private championship facility that has long been a favorite for locals and vacationers
in LeeCounty. Conveniently located near I-75 and US 41 between Naples and Fort Myers, the course features long,
narrow tree lined fairways, distinctive doglegs and an abundance of water hazards. Golfers hoping to enjoy this layout
should take advantage in 2005/06, as this property is slated for residential redevelopment in the near future!
This traditional Florida layout provides three sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6761 yards/129
slope, 6102 yards/121 slope, and 5306 yards – also with a 121 slope for women playing from the forward sets. 100,
150 and 200 yard blocks are situated on the fairways, and color coded flags indicate front, middle or back hole
locations. The putting surfaces rest in slightly raised green complexes and are very small in size, creating a need for accuracy on approach.
There is water in play on 15 holes, though most of the lakes, ponds and canals are situated along the perimeters. There
are very few fairway bunkers, and only 1 or 2 sand traps guard the sides of each green, with a total of 32 bunkers in
all. Trees and water define the sometimes narrow fairways, which are quite level with understated mounding. Partial cart paths make for a comfortable and time-efficient round of golf.
The course winds through a residential community, along a design that features some interesting doglegs that can make
play from the tips a challenge. The whites and forward sets are very user friendly. Originally designed in 1977 by
William Maddox and renovated in 2002 (with 18 new greens), BonitaSprings is a good ban for the buck… a very
good value course for the Naples/Ft Myers area. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
