BRIDGEWATER (THE GOLF CLUB AT) 863-682-3000
Florida Golf Course Review
The Golf Club at Bridgewater is a Steve Smyers design that upon opening in the spring of 2007, was nominated as the Top New Course in Florida by Golf
Digest, GolfWorld and Golf Week Magazines. This links style layout with its pristine lakes, wetlands and native grasses spread out over 180 acres, is
conveniently located off I-4 and is easily accessible from Lakeland, Tampa, Orlando and the Disney attraction areas.
The topography includes 40 acres of natural wetlands that provide habitat for a great variety of native wildlife, helping the property to receive
consideration as a nature conservancy. Water hazards come into play on at least nine holes , and significant sand bunkering in the form of conventional
traps and sprawling waste areas are also strategically situated.
Though fairly new, Bridgewater is already considered to be the best golf course in the Lakeland region, and is one of the best golf values in the entire
state. It is a great example of golf and nature existing side by side. Golfers of all abilities can enjoy a round here, as five sets of tee boxes provide fair
challenges for all levels of play.
The championship tee boxes measure 7193 yards with a formidable slope of 146, and the Blues are also formidable with a 145 slope from 6668 yards.
Alternate sets play to distances and slopes measuring 6196 yards/132 slope, 5744 yards/122 slope and 5245 yards with a player friendly slope of 117 for
ladies hitting from the forward tees. The risk reward opportunities on this finely manicured layout are numerous. Big hitters will be confronted with several
scoring options, while the high handicappers are able to avoid trouble by playing to the bail-out areas that present themselves on most holes. The
sprawling putting surfaces average over 10,000 square feet, warranting a variety of chips and approaches.
On property is a temporary clubhouse with well stocked pro shop plus snack area/lounge with expansive outdoor patio. Together the indoor and outdoor
facilities can accommodate up to 140 guests for outings and events. Practice facilities are upscale, and include a targeted grass range, short game area
with sand bunker and chipping green, plus putting green. There are no residences on this shot-makers course, providing golfers with a serene, secluded golf experience.
