Country Club of Orange Park (904) 726-7664
Florida Golf Course Review - December, 2007
The Country Club of Orange Park is an 18-hole championship layout designed by Bobby Miller that traverses
some of Clay County's most beautiful wetland areas. This well-heeled traditional Florida tract features mature
tree-lined fairways, carries over and along protected wetlands and 14 of the 18 holes have water hazards. With
an Audubon Society Wildlife Preserve adjacent to the Country Club of Orange Park, many exotic and endangered bird species can be found on the course - including bald eagles.
The southern style clubhouse provides a nicely appointed golf shop and a formal dining room that is open for
lunch daily and dinner Thursday through Sunday. The 19th Hole lounge that features popular libations also serves
a wide porch area overlooking the course and allowing guests to sample some southern, down-home hospitality.
The clubhouse also features locker rooms with showers for both men and women, and banquet facilities that can provide seating for 140+ guests.
Practice facilities at the Country Club of Orange Park feature a grass range and an extensive and immaculately
constructed short game area with practice bunker, chipping green and putting green. Golf carts are equipped
with the new EGO GPS system (complimentary) and all pins are laser linked as well as being color coded for
front, middle and back hole location information. 100, 150 and 200 yard plates are located in the center of the
fairways on all par fours and fives, and sprinker heads are marked to the center of the green.
From the immaculate conditioning of this course it is apparent that the course superintendent Scott Price and his
crew consider its' care a labor of love. The Bermuda teeboxes, fairways and rough are trimmed to perfection
and the carpet-like TiffDwarf greens are overseeded with Poatrivialis to ensure that they are well-conditioned
and fast year-round. Thirty-three bunkers dot the course and numerous wetland areas provide additional hazards.
This is a big hitters course from the back tees which play 7,048 yards with a slope/rating of 137/73.3. Four
additional sets of tees provide an equal challenge with yardages of 6548 (129/71.3), 5911 (115/68.8 for men
and 131/72.8 for women) , 5511( 128/72.1) and 5127(121/69.7). Although ample landing areas are provided off
most of the tee boxes, the combination of long tree-lined fairways, hazardous water features, and intricate doglegs will force the use of almost every club in your bag.
Located only 20 minutes from Jacksonville, the Country Club of Orange Park is one of Florida's best kept
secrets. It is truly a player's course and offers an enjoyable yet challenging round to every level of golfer. We
consider this a must play in the Jacksonville area! For more information on the Country Club of Orange Park with a link to its website, please click here.
