CHAMPIONS CLUB AT SUMMERFIELD (772-283-1500)
Florida Golf Course Review 10/20/06
The Champions Club at Summerfield in Stuart is a par 72 , 6800 yard Tom Fazio design that is routed along a
terrain featuring pristine wetlands, upland preserves and numerous lakes. Nominated for the Best New Public
Course in the nation upon opening, this facility is considered to be one of the best golf experiences on the "Treasure Coast".
Set in a residential community, yet featuring a secluded environment, this course is both challenging to the low
handicapper and playable for the novice golfer. Four sets of tee areas afford players with the opportunity to
choose from distances and slopes measuring 6809 yards/135 slope, 6335 yards/128 slope, 5614 yards/117
slope for men and 127 for women, and 4941 yards with s lope of 109 for men and 117 for ladies hitting from the forward tees.
There are some significant carries over wetlands and natural areas off the tee from the back tees, but much of
the trouble is greatly reduced from the two forward sets. The 4 par threes are a strong set, with marshlands
usually separating the tees and greens. The fairways on the par fours and fives are usually wide and mildly rolling
, and the nicely conditioned, undulating green complexes are well protected by mounds and bunkering, but do allow room for error.
Fifty four sand bunkers come into play greenside or along the landing zones of the fairways, and 5 holes have
water in play (not counting the natural areas). Finely manicured landscaping from tee to green adds character
and aesthetic beauty. On property is a grass range, short game area with sand bunker and putting green.
Instuction and lessons of all type - for individuals and groups are available through the golf academy. The
clubhouse features pro shop, restaurant/lounge that serves breakfast and lunch menus, and a beautiful covered
outdoor patio that also services outings and events. Seasonal dinners and Sunday Brunches are also quite popular.
On course yardage markers are present on the fairways of all par fours and fives, at 100, 150 and 200 yards.
There is a 150 yard stake, and Pro Track GPS - standard on all carts, provides accurate distances to the middle
of the green. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations on the slightly raised putting
complexes. Golfers will also appreciate the weather covers featured on the back of each golf cart.
This is a beautiful golf course, and a highly recommended experience. Though the design winds through a
residential community, the houses are far removed from the playing areas, and wetlands or natural areas usually
line at least 1 side of the fairways. For more info, visit our page for the property, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
