CIMARRONE GOLF CLUB (904-287-2000)
Florida Golf Course Review 8/26/06
Cimarrone Golf Club in Jacksonville is a David Poselthwait championship design that meanders through a
residential community bound by the pine forests and thick marshlands of north Florida. Rated 4 stars out of five
by Golf Digest Places to Play, this 6900 yard layout plays along a mildly rolling terrain with significant fairway and greenside mounds and plentiful water hazards.
The absence of sand on this course is a unique feature, as only 6 sand traps are located on the front side and
not many more on the back. Fairway and greenside mounding however, create swales, depressions and grass
bunkers that will challenge the skills of all levels of players. The well conditioned fairways are mostly tree lined,
though ponds and wetlands also help to define the boundaries. The green complexes are usually raised, with medium sized, mildly undulating putting surfaces.
Five sets of tees play to distances and slopes measuring 6891 yards/137 slope, 6553 yards/133 slope, 6103
yards/126 slope, 5474 yards/110 slope for men and 130 for women, and 4704 yards with a slope of 115 for
ladies hitting from the forward tees. On course 100, 150 and 200 yard markers are positioned on the fairways, and pin placement sheets are mounted on each cart. Each tee box also provides measurements.
A gorgeous 10,000 square foot clubhouse features a beautiful restaurant/lounge, plus banquet/outing facilities
that can accommodate over 140 people. There is a pro shop and locker rooms with showers for men and
women. Practice facilities include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, and putting green. Instruction of various kinds is available.
Rates including cart at Cimarron top out at just over $60 prime time in 2006 - making this a great Florida golf
value. Sixteen of the eighteen holes on this course have water in play in some shape of form, making a round
here an interesting one. For more info, visit our page fro the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
