DURAN GOLF CLUB (321-504-7776)
Florida Golf Course Review
Duran Golf Club became the newest member of the golf community on the Space Coast, as it opened for public
play in 2005. This par 72 championship design offers distinctive "Links characteristics" featuring generous
rolling fairways framed by native palm trees, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers - with conditions
that rival those of many private clubs. The Duran clubhouse reflects the architecture and style of the British West
Indies, with a large verandah overlooking the finishing greens. This spectacular facility offers a "top of the line"
golf shop as well as the Tradewinds restaurant, offering a warm and inviting dining and banquet/special event
facility that will provide an ideal location for weddings and special celebrations, or a casual meal after your round
This incredible golf property features the Duran Development Center, one of the most upscale, comprehensive
practice facility in the state, featuring a large targeted double sided grass range, a 10,000 square foot putting
green, and a short game area for chipping and sand practice. A nine-hole executive layout (with holes from 50 to
130 yards in length) featuring realistic course target conditions encircles the range, and is lit for night play every
night of the week. The Duran Academy of Golf offers full time PGA instructional programs with video playback, clinics, demonstrations, along with certified club fitting of top line equipment.
Five sets of tees at Duran areas play to distances and slopes measuring 7152 yards/132 slope, 6781 yards/127
slope, 6312 yards/120 slope, 5885 yards/114 slope for men and 126 for women, and 5309 yards with a slope of
120 for ladies playing from the forward sets. On course yardage blocks are present at 100, 150 and 200 yards,
and the cart paths also provide permanent markings. Sprinkler heads are marked to the front, middle and back
of the large mildly undulating putting surfaces, and pin placement sheets that are mounted on the carts indicate the day's hole locations.
While the landing areas on the manicured fairways are quite generous, golfers will have to contend with 87 white
coquina sand bunkers and with water hazards that though mostly on the perimeters, can have an affect on the tee
shots or approaches on ten of the holes. Each nine of this Lewis "Chip" Powell layout is designed with 5 par
fours, 2 par five and 2 par threes. Besides the obvious hazards, golfers will often have to allow for the patterns of
the widely variant coastal winds, which can create up to a five club difference on some days!
Duran Golf Club is the exceptional Florida golf experience, and is a must play for visitors to this coastal area. So
exceptional, in fact, that Duran has been voted "Best Golf Course" and "Best Practice Facility" by the readers of
Florida Today Newspaper, a subsidiary of USA Today. We were impressed with the interesting layout,
spectacular conditioning, and impressive practice facilities. We highly recommend a round at this daily fee
facility - this is a "must play" for golfers visiting the area! For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
