EAGLES GOLF CLUB ( (813-920-6681) The Forest Course
Florida Golf Course Review 12/12/04
General information
The Eagles Golf Club in Odessa, just NE of downtown Tampa is a 36-hole facility whose courses have been
awarded 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. Rick Robbins, Gary Koch and Ron Garl collaborated on the
layouts, which feature varying personalities. The Forest Course presents scenic beauty and is a shot makers
design, while the Lakes features plentiful water hazards that frame wide fairways, and lead to open green
complexes that invite golfers of all skill levels. More than 30 ponds, lakes and canals plus an abundance of majestic oaks help to create an aesthetically pleasing environment.
A favorite for corporate and charity golf events and outings, The Eagles has a spacious clubhouse with a fully
stocked golf shop, a large dining room with panoramic views of the golf courses, outdoor patio, and unique
meeting rooms/facilities that can facilitate groups from 10 to 150. The latest technology is available including
High Speed T-1 based internet access and a six channel, standards based videoconferencing system. The
dining room can also seat up to 150 people (200 with the outdoor terrace), and with a large dance floor can
service special functions including weddings receptions and parties. For more info, visit the Eagles website.
For members, the Eagles also features a swimming pool and a playground with a basketball court. Golfers can
make use of the practice area, which features a unique aqua driving range with three target greens, plus a full size putting green.
Forest Course
The Forest presents wooded fairways and small greens that demand shot-making ability. As indicated in the
photos above however, there is generally ample room for bump and run shots when approaches fall short. Four
sets of tees play to distances that measure 6712, 6224, 5622 and 4911 yards, with slope ratings ranging from
114 to 130. Water comes into play prominently on 14 holes with ponds and lakes in view on others - though there
are few forced carries. 60 sand bunkers are located throughout the layout, along the fairways or greenside. The
Tiff-dwarf putting surfaces and 419-Bermuda fairways are always in good condition. This is truly an interesting
design, with some challenging doglegs framed by trees and water. Accuracy as well as distance are necessary to score well here.
With these incredible facilities, 36 holes of finely conditioned championship golf, excellent service, and
competitive pricing, The Eagles is a good bet for a leisurely round and for special events. Their website is one of
the better we have perused - with lots of info on the courses and facilities. For more info, visit our page for the
