Florida Golf Course Review
The Florida Club in Stuart is a Dick Grey Signature course that meanders through native wetlands lined with tall, crooked oaks along a terrain that features
surprising elevation changes. Long sand waste areas are also a unique feature, as nearly every hole is lined on one side or the other by these hazards, either along the fairways or greenside.
In total there are 35 sand bunkers - most in the form of these spacious waste areas. The fairways on most holes are quite ample, and were in great shape
on our January visit. The greens are humungous - and roll true and quick. Land on them in regulation and birdies are possible as these surfaces are only
mildly undulating. Water comes into play on 10 holes, with a few forced carries off the tee or on approaches. Mounding is present on most green
complexes, though there are ample opportunities for bump and run chips.
With the numerous lakes, ponds and marsh areas comes abundant wildlife including various types of cranes, hawks and other waterfowl. Tropical
landscaping adds to the properties' aesthetics - as evidenced by many of the photos in this review. On property is a full service clubhouse with pro shop,
restaurant/lounge (with outdoor patio affording great views of the course) that serves breakfast and lunch menus, and a comprehensive practice facility. A
huge putting green, grass range (soon to be renovated) and short game area with two practice bunkers make this one of the top facilities in the area.
Golfers will appreciate the Uplink GPS that provides accurate yardages from tee to green. The golf carts also feature club covers on the back, to protect
golf clubs from inclement weather. On course there are yardage blocks at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and sprinkler heads are also measured to the center of
the green. Color coded flags indicate the day's pin placements - which is valuable information on these oversized putting surfaces.
Five sets of tees play to yardages/slopes measuring 6909/134, 6419/129, 5892/124 slope for men and 130 for women, 5497/120 slope for men and 124
for women and 4988 yards/115 slope. No matter which tee you choose, the two guys who golf feel you will enjoy the experience...this is a beautiful course
in a wonderful setting, with very good playing conditions and service - and affordable rates (topping out at $69 w cart in 2005). For more info, visit our
