GREEN VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB (352-394-2133)
Florida Golf Course Review 11/02/06
Green Valley Country Club is the oldest, most established course in Lake County. Originally designed in 1967 as
a nine hole course, the layout was expanded to a 6645 yard 18-hole championship facility, with the re-design by
Lloyd Clifton. Lake County features some significant rolling hills, and the routing of this course was perpetuated to fit into the natural terrain.
As a member owned, semi private club that is open for public play, Green Valley boasts well maintained greens,
fairways and tees with four tee boxes that provide opportunities for golfers with mid to high handicaps, to hone
their games. The tips measure 6645 yards with a slope of 126, while alternate sets play to distances and slopes
measuring 6088 yards120 slope, 5482/112 slope and 5205 with a slope of 120 for women hitting from the forward sets.
There are 37 sand bunkers situated greenside or near the landing zones on the mildly rolling fairways and water
comes into play on five holes. The green complexes present sufficient recovery room and are often open in front,
inviting low running chips and pitches. Mildly sloping putting surfaces provide ample opportunities for low scores.
The fairways also allow room for error off the tee, although there are a few holes that will challenge all levels of golfers.
The front side features several uphill and downhill approaches, and finishes with three holes that all have water in
play. Number 7 is a beautiful dogleg left par four that calls for an accurate approach over a pond, to a green
complex bordered by a wood retaining wall. The par three 8th has water in play in front and to the right, and a
lake has an effect on the tee shot and approach on the par four ninth. Numbers 10 and 12 bend around a lake,
and the finishing hole is a long dogleg left par four, with two large sand bunkers situated in front of the green.
On property at Green Valley is a 1000 square foot pro shop, a snack area/ lounge with beverages and hot/cold
sandwiches, plus facilities for outing and events. There is a grass driving range, short game area with sand
bunker, plus practice green. With rates topping out at under $50 prime time including cart in 2007, this is a nice
value for the area. For more info, visit our page for the course with direct link to their website by clicking here.
