Florida golf course review
Hibiscus Golf Club is an 18 hole public golf course located in beautiful Naples, Florida. Built in 1969, this splendidly conditioned layout is one of the few courses in the Naples
area open to the public. This is a golfer's dream with 18 totally different experiences for both the high and low handicap golfer. Wide fairways, bunkered greens and numerous
lakes and streams make each hole a new challenge and a pleasure to play. In addition, Hibiscus offers one of the few public practice facilities in Southwest Florida.
This fairly open layout includes some slightly tree lined fairways, and small young trees scattered about. Fairways feature wide, flat landing zones with plenty of obstacles such as
bunkers and creeks. Although the greens are consistently level with the surrounding ground, bunkering does not allow for bump and run opportunities. The putting surfaces' vary
in size from medium to large with a decent amount of slope and undulation challenging golfers to approach these greens with accuracy.
Four sets of tee areas provide opportunity for golfers to choose from distances and slopes measuring 6476 yards/128 slope, 6103 yards/125 slope, 5300 yards/114 slope, and
4925 yards with s lope of 112 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. The par 35 front nine plays slightly shorter than the par 37 back nine. The front features one par five, while
the back has three par fives and four par fours.
On course the marking system includes yardage blocks on the fairways and cart paths at 100, 150, and 200 yards from the center of the green on all par fours and fives.
Management is currently in the process of installing a pin placement system. Fifty eight sand bunkers are located in strategic areas near landing zones, and greenside. Water is
in play in some shape or form on sixteen holes with a few forced carries.
The recently remodeled 8,000 square foot clubhouse features a fully stocked pro shop, lounge and dining room, a veranda deck with a view of the course, and plenty of room for
banquets and outings. The menu features deli sandwiches, prime rib sandwich, angus burgers, four types of salads, fried shrimp, wings and much more in a relaxed country club
atmosphere. Practice facilities include a targeted grass range, putting green, and a short game/chipping area.
