LPGA INTERNATIONAL - Champions Course (386-274-5742)
Florida Golf Course Review
Located in Daytona Beach, Florida, the LPGA International is the national headquarters for the LPGA and yearly host to an LPGA tournament (The
Mercury Titleholders Championship) and the LPGA qualifier. This semiprivate golf facility with 36-holes of championship golf provides an opportunity for
amateurs to play where the pros play.
LPGA International provides guests and members with a beautiful, million-dollar "old world styled" clubhouse that features a well stocked pro shop which
offers a wide selection of golf apparel, equipment and sundries (a large selection of which, unsurprisingly, is geared toward women). It is also the location
of Knickers Bar & Grill which is open daily for lunch and offers breakfast and dinner and select weekend days. The facility features elegant locker rooms
with showers for members and a nicely appointed locker, private commode/change area/washroom for nonmembers.
The International Room and the LPGA International is a state-of-the-art meeting/event facility that can host parties, weddings and meetings for groups of
20 to 200. The property is an ideal location for a combination event such as a company conference/golf outing.
The LPGA Golf Academy at the LPGA International offers personalized attention with a three to one Student to Teacher ratio. One or two day Golf Golf
Schools are reasonably priced and clinics and group instructions are available on a daily basis.
Golf carts are equipped with weather protectors and ball & club washers, as well as a ProLink GPS system. Both 18-hole championship courses on
property provide immaculately maintained Bermuda tees, greens and fairways with yardage blocks at 100, 150 and 200 (250 on par 5's). Sprinkler heads
are also marked with yardage to the center of the green.
THE CHAMPIONS COURSE
Florida Golf Course Review
The Champions was designed by Rees Jones specifically for professional women golfers and is host to the Titleholders Championship each year. This par
72, links-style course winds its way through marsh areas and natural preserves and the mounded fairways are dotted with strategically placed sand and
water hazards. The generous greens are undulating and fast.
Five sets of tees ensure that both the challenge of playability and difficultly can be met here. The back tees play a challenging 7088 yards with a slope of
137 while the three sets of middle tees play 6664, 6225 and 5744 yards with slopes of 132, 124(Men)/137(Women), and 117(Men)/137(Women)
respectively. The forward tees play 5131 yards with a slope of 125.
The Champions course at LPGA International has received many awards since its opening in 1994 including Top Ten You Can Play (Golf Magazine) and
America's Most Women Friendly Course (Golf For Women magazine). 2010 rates are $89 for guest and $79 for Florida residents with special rates for city
residents. A Champions & Legends Card can be purchased for play on both courses (does not need to be played the same day) at a great value of $130.
The championship tournament layout, its historical relevance, quality and service, and its proximity to the many attractions and beaches make it a must
play when vacationing in the Daytona Beach area.
