Florida Golf Course Review
The Plantation Golf Course, located in a beautiful gated community in Fort Myers, is carved out of open areas, preserving the natural habitat for golfers to
enjoy. This Hurdzan-Fry Designed 18-hole championship course opened in 2007 along with the 38,000 square foot Great House and an extensive practice
facility. The layout provides a challenging, thought provoking and fun experience for golfers of any skill level.
Due to a busy schedule we were unable to play at The Plantation, but it was actually a pleasure just driving the course. Immaculate course conditions,
beautifully decorated tee boxes with plants and flowers, everything one would expect from a country club and more will make this a pleasant golf
experience for players of any skill level. That being said, this is a very challenging course (see slope ratings in next paragraph) with water in play on every
hole and more than one hazard on eight holes. There are also 77 sand traps to contend with including greenside, fairway, and large waist bunkers all
strategically placed to force accurate play from all angles.
There are five sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 7141 yards/143 slope, 6725 yards/140 slope, 6268 yards/135 slope, 5733
yards/ 117 slope for man and 138 for women, and 5109 yards with a slope of 110 for men and 120 for women playing the forward tees. As the score card
indicates, this course was built for golfers of all skill levels. Both scratch golfers and beginners will be challenged, yet have a fair chance with a variety of tee boxes to choose from.
Course conditions are immaculate from the groomed tee boxes decorated by beautiful plant life and flowers to the manicured fairways and greens.
Fairway landing zones are wide without much room as each hole is surrounded by water, bunkers, and mounding. The large greens feature multiple
slopes and undulations and are well guarded by bunkers and grass mounds.
The clubhouse features a well stocked pro shop with a professional golf staff available for lessons, lounges, pool tables, locker rooms with showers, a grill
room and a patio for dining with a beautiful view of the course. Practice facilities include a driving range, putting green, and a short game area with a practice bunker.
Yardage on course is well marked on all sprinkler heads to the center of the green making club selection easier from any position. Each par three tee box
is marked with distance to the front, middle, and back of the green. All carts include daily pin placement sheets with six possible hole locations. Yardage
booklets are available which include hole diagrams and useful yardage information.
