Plantation Palms Golf Club in Land O' Lakes north of Tampa is a GDSI Managed golf facility featuring a beautiful championship, residential golf course
designed by David S. Harman. This gorgeous layout is links inspired with wide, undulating fairways bordered and in some cases infiltrated by rolling
mounds and plentiful soft white sand bunkers, along with numerous lakes and ponds.
The slightly raised green complexes feature a variety of medium to large putting surfaces that are sometimes relatively flat, and at other times tiered and
sloping. Consistently, these greens, as well as the fairways and tees are finely manicured to provide optimum playing conditions. There are a total of 47
sand traps scattered about the design, with many positioned greenside, and with several situated near the landing zones on the manicured fairways.
Wetlands and ponds also add to the aesthetic beauty and to the challenge of the layout. There are manageable forced carries off the tees on number six
and seventeen, plus on the approaches of holes one, eight, twelve, fourteen and eighteen. Only the par four second and third holes are totally absent of
water hazards. Ponds, lakes, marshes and perimeter mounding really help to shape this layout, which has very few trees in play.
Four sets of tees play to distances and slopes measuring 6831 yards/139 slope, 6324 yards/135 slope, 5924 yards/133 slope and 5396 yards with a slope
of 130 for women playing from the reds. 150 yard stakes are posted on all par fours and fives, 100, 150 and 200 yard blocks are posted on the fairways,
and sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green. Small markers on the flags indicate front, middle or back hole locations.
On property is a comprehensive practice facility with grass range, short game area with sand bunker and large putting green. The clubhouse includes a
pro shop, locker rooms with showers, and restaurant/lounge with outdoor patio that serves a lunch menu and standard bar items. After our review round,
we accidentally happened upon an incredible Italian restaurant in Land of Lakes in the Village Lakes Shopping Center - Benedetto's (813-909-9694).
Turns out this establishment is one of the top 10 restaurants in Florida. If you are in the area - treat yourself...best Italian food we have ever experienced.
