Florida Golf Course Review

Sanibel Island Golf Club | Florida golf course review

Sanibel Island Golf Club (formerly Beachview Golf Club) on Sanibel is one of two championship style courses that can be found on this little island paradise - just northwest of Fort Myers. This is a relatively short course by today's modern design standards - but is non-the-less beautiful and interesting for all levels of players.

Golfers will not be able to use a grip it and rip mentality on this course, as many tee shots demand course management to negotiate doglegs and lay up for a solid approach. Sand bunkering is understated as only 34 sand traps are situated about the course. Water comes into play, with a few forced carries, on 13 of the holes.

Golfers will encounter ample fairways - some open and some tree lined, with adjacent canals and marsh areas providing sanctuary for an abundance of native wildlife. The putting surfaces are small and usually slope from back to front - and the complexes often provide significant recovery room.

The design meanders within a upscale residential community - with some truly magnificent homes. On property is a clubhouse with a popular restaurant open for lunch and dinner, and small pro shop. There is no driving range, but golfers can putt and chip on the practice green in front of the clubhouse.

This is a no-frills property - just a nice layout… though short in nature… as the tips play to just 6006 yards with 129 slope. Alternate tees measure 5482 yards/125 slope, 4813 yards/115 slope and 4336 with a slope of 114 for women playing from the forward tees. There is a 150 yard stake and yardage is measured to the center of the green on all par fours and fives, with indicators on the cart paths and fairways. Information on the day's pin placement on the small greens is not provided, so you are on your own here.
