SILVERTHORN COUNTRY CLUB (352-799-4653)
Florida Golf Course Review 2/27/06
Silverthorn Golf Club in Brooksville is an 18-hole championship layout designed by renowned course architect
Joe Lee. The topography features a rolling terrain with some beautiful ponds, and an abundance of white sand
bunkers. There is a mix of tightly tree-lined and links style open holes, providing a variety that will keep golfers on
their toes. Raised green complexes provide a base for mildly sloping putting surfaces, which are usually protected on the sides and behind by sand.
In total there are 96 sand bunkers located greenside or near the landing zones on the generally ample fairways,
which frequently are bordered with perimeter mounding. Sandy waste areas also lace the par three 8th and 15th.
. Water hazards come into play on four of the holes, three on the front side and one on the back.
On property is a grass range plus putting/chipping green, and a 25,000 square foot clubhouse that includes a
pro shop, locker rooms with showers, and a beautiful restaurant/lounge with outdoor patio (Traditions Bar & Grill
) - open for lunch daily and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. Banquet/outing facilities can accommodate up to
350 people. On course 150 yard stakes are visible on all par fours and fives, and 100, 150 and 200 yardage
blocks are also posted on the fairways. A pin placement sheet is mounted on each golf cart, and hole diagrams are provided on all the scorecards
The Fairways, tees and greens are of Bermuda grass with rye over-seed during the winter months. The roughs
are Bermuda, which like that on many area courses, is allowed to go dormant during the winter. Five sets of tees
play to distances and slopes measuring 6933 yards/131 slope, 6502 yards/130 slope, 6194 yards/126 slope,
5665 yards/118 slope for men and 128 for women, and 5259 yards with a slope fo 121 for ladies playing from
the red tees. The Best Western Weeki Wachee Resort across from Weeki Wachee Springs Water Park offers stay and play packages with Silverthorn. Click here for their informational page with map & directions - and click here to visit our page for Silverthorn, with direct link to their website.
