TURBULL BAY GOLF COURSE (386)427-8727
Florida Golf Course Review 12/7/07
Turnbull Bay Golf Club in New Smyrna Beach - about 10 miles south of Daytona, is beautiful piece of golf
property that is situated between a 2800 acre nature preserve and Turnbull Bay...with a claim that there is more
wildlife than homeowners! The course is an environmental masterpiece, with the aesthetically pleasing
surroundings featuring an abundance of natural vegetation including cord, pampas, wild azaleas, and beautiful
palm trees. Tall pines and tropical palmettos line the softly rolling fairways, with mature oaks often providing shade to the green complexes.
There are 71 sand bunkers (including a few waste areas) and water hazards come into play on 17 holes. Many
of the ponds and marshes are situated along the perimeters, but golfers will be challenged from time to time with
carries off the tee. Careful consideration is given to safeguarding the indigenous plants and wetlands that can be
found about the property, which provide sanctuaries to deer, fox, turtles, storks, egrets, osprey, red tail hawks, gators and other native wildlife.
Crushed shell cart paths are another of the properties' trademarks - as Turnbull Bay endeavors to promote the
natural environment as much as possible. The Gary Wintz golf course features Tif Dwarf putting surfaces and
Bermuda fairways that are sculpted from the abundant vegetation, with an interesting variety of hole designs.
There is a lot of trouble to navigate - but most of the holes that present risk/reward situations also have significant bail out room.
There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6429 yards/129 slope, 6018
yards/124 slope, 5505 yards/116 slope and 4856 yards with a slope of 119 for ladies hitting from the forward
tees. On course yardage markers include stakes and yardage blocks on the fairways at 100, 150and 200 yards, and small markers on the flagsticks indicate front, middle or back hole locations.
The clubhouse features a pro shop plus snack bar featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner items. There is a grass
range and ample putting green. Lessons and clinics of various types are offered on property. Golfers will
encounter mildly undulating medium size green complexes that are a pleasure to putt on, with adjacent mounding
on the sides and backs - but with generally open fronts. The topography features a mixture of hilly, mounded and tree lined terrain with some beautiful water features.
