Florida Golf Course Review

Turtle Creek Golf Club 05
Turtle Creek Golf Club 05

Turtle Creek Golf Club is one of Brevard County's most seasoned and challenging courses. Designed by Robert Renaud and constructed in 1971, Turtle Creek is a traditional Old Florida course with well-manicured fairways and greens.

The property features an aqua range and a practice green. The clubhouse offers a very well stocked pro shop and a bar/restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and snacks and the service in both areas is friendly, professional and generous.

Course markings include red, white and blue blocks on the fairways at 100,150 and 200 yards, a black and white stake at 150 yards and sprinkler heads that are marked from 150 yards in. Red, white and blue flags indicate front, middle and back pin placement.

The first thing you will notice about this par 72 course is that it is tight. Four sets of tees play 6326, 6002, 5287 and 4586 yards respectively, but don't be fooled - what this course lacks in distance, it more than makes up for in difficulty depending on your choice of tees. The slope rating for the back tees is 130, middle tees are 125 and 116 while the forward tees are rated 113.

Narrow, winding fairways, severe dog legs, forty-six strategically placed sand bunkers and 15 holes with water hazards coupled with the abundance of pines, wet oaks and palm trees that line the fairways make Turtle Creek a shotmaker's course and will cause you to use every club in your bag.

Turtle Creek is also a very picturesque course with some fairways being reminiscent of old Florida forests. The abundant wildlife on the course which includes wild turkeys, alligators, sandhill cranes and turtles can be found near the winding creeks that meander through the property and give Turtle Creek a "sanctuary" feel.

Located just off I-95 in Rockledge Florida, Turtle Creek is part of the Space Coast Golf Association and is among the best buys in the area. Green fees for 2005 vary between $27 .54 (Weekdays PM May-Nov 14) to $55.12 (Weekend AM - Jan-April) and include all taxes and a cart. Special pricing is available for tournaments and outings. Contact the pro shop (at the phone number listed at the top of this review) for current rates.
