Wedgefield Golf Club near the east boundries of Orlando is a par 72 championship layout that has long been
considered a central Florida favorite by locals and guests. With rates that top out in 2007 at under $45 including
cart in prime season, plus seasonal internet specials, this property provides one of the communities better golf values.
Formerly known as the Rocket City and Cape Orlando golf clubs, the course features a nice variety in hole
design, with short holes lined with lush cypress trees that demand accuracy and patience, along with long par
fours that promote a grip it and rip it mentality. The final four holes provide a tough test, highlighted by the number one handicapped 475 yard par four 15th and 445 yard par four 18th.
Sand features come into play frequently near the landing zones or greenside, with 67 bunkers situated about the
layout. Golfers will also have to navigate strategically placed water hazards, with water affecting the tee shots or
approaches on 11 of the holes. Four sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6726 yards/129
slope, 6324 yards/126 slope, 5580 yards/121 slope and 5327 yards with a slope of 120 from the red tee areas.
Practice facilities at Wedgefield include a targeted grass range, putting green, and short game area with a sand
bunker. Lessons of all types for individuals and groups are available. The clubhouse includes a pro shop plus
restaurant/lounge open daily for lunch, with some nice dinner specials also offered on various days of the week (information available on the properties' website).
The yardage marking system consists of colored plates in the middle of the fairwaysfrom distances of 100, 150
and 200 yards to the greens center as well as sprinkler heads. Colored flags indicate daily pin placements.
