WESTCHESTER COUNTRY CLUB (561-734-6300)
Florida Golf Course Review 11/13/04
Westchester Country Club is a 27-hole championship facility that was designed by Karl Litten, and has been
awarded 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. The holes on this course are set in an aesthetically pleasing
environment, featuring well manicured fairways that play to true fast rolling greens, along acreage that is
surrounded by a natural wildlife preserve. The 3 nine-hole courses afford golfers an opportunity to play distinctive
layouts that range from 4750 to 6772 yards in length, with slope ratings that fluctuate between a playable 106
from the forward tees to a formidable 137 from the tips. Water is in play often, though ample landing areas can
often be found from the tees. In total, 24 out of the 27 holes have water in play in some shape or form, and 106 sand bunkers can be found on the fairways and greenside.
Remodeled in 2002, the clubhouse at Westchester includes a pro shop, plus a restaurant/lounge that is open for
lunch daily, Sunday Brunch, and for dinner Thursday through Sunday nights. An outdoor patio also provides
outstanding views of the golf course. The new banquet facility can now host events of various kinds, hosting groups of up to 350 people. Locker rooms with showers are also available to guests.
Practice facilities include a driving range, putting and chipping greens, plus a short game area with sand bunker
. An 18-hole executive course is also on property - perfect for beginners and for experienced players looking for
a quick round or for those intent on honing their short games. Private golf instruction and lessons of all kinds are
also available. On course, some sprinkler heads are marked and yardage blocks are situated on the fairways at
100, 150 and 200 yards, with color coded flags indicating the days pin placement. Weather covers (for golf clubs) are standard on all carts.
Photos in this review include images from the Blue and Red Courses - which we were told are the most
photogenic. The Gold Course is similar in length, and provides a very interesting stretch of holes that feature
beautiful marshlands. Throughout the layout, golfers will find outstanding conditioning - as is evident from these
photos. There is a good mix of mounded and flat entry green complexes, and mounding is also prevalent along
the sides of the fairways. We found the layout to be extremely interesting, and would highly recommend a round
here. For more info, visit our page for Westchester on our web catalog of courses to play in Florida by clicking here.
