Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club in Ocala (about 1 hour 20 minutes north of Orlando) is a Ron Garl Championship design that is recognized as one of the top exclusive
courses in Central Florida. The course includes 8 masterfully recreated holes that pay tribute to some of the world's top golf venues - August National, Royal Troon, Baltusrol and
St Andrews - with impeccable conditioning.
The property is situated on 1200 acres and features amenities worthy of a world class facility. The 77,000 square foot Southern style clubhouse- replete with wood burning
fireplaces, features three signature restaurants (credit cards only accepted), a well stocked pro shop, state of the art spa and fitness facilities, tennis courts, an equestrian
compound, and a myriad of residential properties offering a variety of home ownerships and club memberships. There also are banquet facilities (including a grand ballroom), an
outdoor veranda featuring dramatic vistas, and an outdoor pool area.
Practice facilities are comprehensive and feature a grass range with two dozen target greens, 10-acre short game area with sand bunkers, putting greens, plus two practice holes
. Golf instruction of all types is available from a staff of PGA certified teachers. The on course yardage marking system includes yardages posted on all sprinkler heads and
yardage plates in the middle of the fairways at 100 150 and 200 yards. There are pin placement sheets with 6 possible positions displayed on the carts.
There are 60 soft sand bunkers with a great variance of sizes and shapes situated near the landing zones along the manicured fairways, or greenside. Only two holes have water
hazards prominently in play - the par three 6th and long par three 15th - both gorgeous golf holes that demand carries, but with ample bail out room. The green complexes also
vary in size and shape, but are true rolling and a joy to put on.
Four sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6882 yards/138 slope, 6637 yards/136 slope, 6253 yards with a slope of 128 for men and 142 for women, and
5580 with a slope of 117 for men and 128 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. As the slope ratings indicate, scratch golfers will be challenged from the two back tees(and top
women players from the whites), while the average player and high handicapper can enjoy a fair test from the White and red sets.
Visitors can expect private country club type conditioning and service. This course is special - and has already been recognized by golf publications as one of Florida's very best.
