KINGS RIDGE GOLF CLUB (352-242-4653)
Florida Golf Course Review
Kings Ridge in Clermont features a pair of varying golf experiences - the Lloyd Clifton South course which is a 6183 yard par 70 championship design, plus the Ron Garl North Course, a par 57 challenging "executive" style layout. The property is set in Central Florida's rolling hills, just a short drive from the Orlando resort area. Kings Ridge is the sister
property to the Legends, which is situated immediately across Highway 27. All three courses are managed by Pinnacle Golf Services Corp.
The Clubhouse at Kings Ridge features simple amenities - a snack area and outdoor patio with sandwiches and beverages, and a full service practice facility with putting green,
short game area and practice bunker, plus an ample grass range with target areas. As is the case with the Legends - the carts here include a weather cover to protect clubs during
periodic rains (and hurricanes!). On course yardages are provided through measurements on sprinkler heads and blocks on the fairways at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Pin
placement sheets indicate the day's hole locations, which rotate with 3 sections, and hole diagram cards are available in the pro shop.
The greens here are medium to large in size, with only mild undulations. There is generally ample room greenside - miss and recoveries from the level playing areas are usually
simple. We counted 40 sand bunkers, and water comes into play on only one hole - the par three 4th. This is a wonderful golf experience for seniors and for beginners - and ample
fairways and inviting green complexes should serve up some low scores for seasoned players. The five sets of tee boxes play to: 6183 yards/118 slope, 5828 yards/114 slope,
5489 yards/110 slope, 5101 yards/105 slope and 4462 yards with a slope of 106 for the ladies.
Pine trees line many of the fairways, and some tees and greens are elevated. On the back side a couple of late breaking doglegs on 15 and 16 present an interesting challenge.
For the most part however, what you see is what you get. This is a very score-able golf course - nice for a warm up round, especially for those traveling in from the cold north during
winter months. You certainly can make a few mistakes here with being punished too harshly.
