Mission Valley Golf & Country Club in Nokomis in southwest Florida is a private club with upscale amenities, that is now open for limited play for members of Pope Golf. The
original course was designed by David Wallace and the greens and bunkers were redesigned by Ted McAnlis in 1997. In 2003 the fairway bunkers were enhanced and modified
by John Sanford. In 2004 the Board approved a $1.7 million dollar budget to refurbish and expand the Clubhouse. This project began in August of 2005 and was completed in
September of 2006. In addition, a major tee renovation took place in 2007 that included rebuilding all 18 tees and creating a championship set of tees at 6,734 yards.
The 18-hole layout plays to a par 72 and is quite walk-able, with tee areas situated not far from the nicely conditioned green complexes the golf course is set in a manicured,
peaceful country setting with several lakes tastefully positioned to provide a scenic view with little potential as major water hazard threats. Water comes into play on 7 holes and
there are 51 sand bunkers situated along the fairways or greenside.
The interesting design is mildly rolling and tree lines with mildly raised green complexes and frequent doglegs framed by pines and hardwoods. There are 100, 150 and 200
yards markers on all par fours and fives, and small markers on the flagsticks indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations.
This course is challenging for skilled players from the tips, and very user friendly from the mid and front tees. 7 sets of tees play to yardages and slopes measuring 6734
yards/131 slope, 6477 yards/129 slope, 6183 yards/127 slope, 5993 yards/ 125 slope, 5763 yards/125 slope for men and 127 for women, 5310 yards/ 120 slope for men and 122
for women, and 4983 yards/119 for ladies playing from the forward tees. With multiple tee areas, golfers of various skill levels can enjoy a round here.
The clubhouse features a pro shop plus dining areas with banquet/outing facilities on property. Lockers rooms with showers are available for men and women. Practice facilities
are comprehensive with a driving range, short game area with bunker plus putting green. Mission Valley Golf & Country Club is available for play by members, guests of members
