OLD CORKSCREW GOLF CLUB (239) 949-4700
Florida Golf Course Review
Old Corkscrew Golf Club is a premier 18 hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in Estero, 15 miles from Ft. Myers. Upon opening at the tail end of 2006, this semi private
course was projected to top the charts for courses in Florida by the end of 2007. After being afforded the opportunity to play it, we agree completely. This is a gorgeous golf course,
and the surrounding environment is secluded from any residential development which makes for a peaceful golf experience.
Off the tees golfers will find water coming into play on nearly every hole, and many beautifully sculpted bunkers cab be found guarding the large fairway landing areas. The
numerous greenside sand traps add to the challenge of hitting the fast paced undulating greens, and in some cases a second water hazard will arise greenside. There is often
ample room for up and down opportunities near the large green complexes.
There are 4 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 7393 yards/142 slope, 6617 yds./139 slope, 6262 yds./129 slope, and from the forward sets5061 yards and a
slope of 123. All carts are equipped with GPS Industries Informer navigation, which provides the most extensive tee to pin information, including yardage to other golf carts, water
hazards, bunkers, pins, and it even provides a flyby of every hole.
While playing this course I found it impossible to find a ball mark on the extremely fast celebration turf greens as the ball seemed to roll on contact and not leave a dent. In total
there are over 70 greenside and fairway bunkers, and 15 water hazards come into play on 12 of the 18 holes. Most of the large fairway bunkers feature flower beds growing out of
their center.
On property is a beautiful practice facility which includes a nicely manicured grass driving range, a large putting green, and a short game area with a sand bunker. The clubhouse
includes a stocked pro shop, restrooms, and a snack bar with breakfast and lunch items available.
Old Corkscrew is an extraordinary course and a highly recommended golf experience. This is basically a private facility - with limited availability for public play. Our advice to anyone
within an hour's drive of this property - play it while you can. It will be one of the more memorable rounds you play in Florida! For more info, visit our detailed listing page for the
