Florida Golf Course Review
Open for play to members and guests of members, with some reciprocal play open during the shoulder and off seasons.
Palmira Golf Club in Bonita Springs is a premier 18-hole-championship masterpiece designed by architect Gordon Lewis. The area's newest and most scenic layout is stunning
to view and satisfying to play for golfers of all abilities. Manicured fairways, greens and tees compliment a challenging design that incorporates water hazards, abundant sand
bunkers, mounding, waste areas and plentiful wildlife set in a lush tropical environment. Simply put, this is one of the most beautiful golf courses that the public can play in Florida!
The championship tees here provide a stern test even for scratch golfers, as they measure a whopping 7403 yards with a slope rating of 146 - that is one of Florida's highest.
Those venturing to the tips will find formidable carries over water and doglegs that require accuracy and distance. The second and fourth holes especially provide risk/reward
scenarios that can set the tone for the round. Alternate tees play to yardages and slopes measuring 6492 yards/131 slope, 6005 yards/125 slope, 5396 yards/127 slope and 4699
with a slope of 120. On course golfers will find the layout extremely well marked with 100, 150 and 200 yard blocks on the fairways, as well as sprinkler heads that are measured to
the center of the green. Especially appreciated are the permanent markings on the cart paths, posted every 25 yards from 200 in. Each tee box is also marked. Pin placement
sheets are provided on the carts - a new fleet that feature efficient club covers plus a golf bag fitting system that keeps bags (for those driving solo) in place.
The clubhouse at Palmira is as special as the golf course. There is a full service pro shop, restaurant/lounge with outdoor patio, meeting and banquet facilities, a billiard room and
snack bar. All are very upscale - as is the beautifully appointed locker rooms for men and women that include showers, toiletries, and lounge area with a television and
comfortable seating. The property is actively soliciting golf, tennis, sports and social memberships, which provides unique privileges including golf and tennis entitlement, use of
all social facilities, plus inclusion of a Renaissance Center Club membership. Reciprocal play for members includes an extensive list of golf clubs that feature many of the finest
courses in SW Florida. For more info on memberships, contact the main office at 239-949-4466.
Also on property are extensive practice facilities including an aqua range, 2 short games areas with chipping greens and sand bunkers, and a huge putting green. An additional
nine holes was in the process of completion on our December 1004 visit. The current 18-hole layout is stunning in its design and luxurious in presentation. Lush fairways are
flanked by spectacular, tropical landscaping, set in a very upscale residential area. All 4 par fours have water in play, and could be signature holes on practically any course. In fact,
water hazards are in play in some shape or form on every hole, and 79 sand bunkers of various shapes and sizes are situated along the fairways or greenside. Though sloped
highly, Palmira rewards golfers that keep it in play, as the green complexes as a rule feature open fronts, allowing for bump and runs and simple chips to large, mildly sloped
putting surfaces. Exaggerated mounding and swales that are prevalent in many of the area's layouts are absent, save for a couple holes. The TifEagle greens at Palmira present
some of the best putting experiences in the state, with the stimpmeter rating often reaching eleven or twelve.
Palmira is a first class experience all the way. If you are in the Fort Myers/Naples area, a round here is a "must play"! For more info on the course and facilities, visit our page for the
