PELICAN BAY COUNTRY CLUB (386-756-0034) South Course
Florida Golf Course Review
The South Course at Pelican Bay is an open for public play championship course featuring sparkling canals, lakes and lush foliage along a 6,355 yard layout. The property
includes a large driving range, putting green and short game area, plus clubhouse facilities that provide upscale amenities for members and guests. Members also enjoy play on
the private North Course, as well as a swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, fine family and casual dining and a myriad of social activities. There are fully stocked golf and tennis
shops and full service banquet facilities that can accommodate up to 250 people.
Three sets of tees on the South Course play to distances that measure 6385 yards/132 slope, 6017 yards/129 slope, and 5135 yards with a 127 slope from the forward sets.
There is water in play in some shape or form on all but four holes - though most of the hazards are situated along the perimeters of the nicely conditioned fairways, with just a few
forced carries. There are just 36 sand bunkers along the course, with most situated greenside. Some of these sand traps are high lipped and penal in nature
The slope ratings are quite high for a 6400 yard course. Tight tree lined fairways along an undulating terrain with canals and ponds often situated on one side making accuracy a
necessity off the tee and on approaches. The course is very well marked as 100, 150 and 200 yard blocks and stakes are present on all par fours and fives, and sprinkler heads
are also measured to the center of the large, mildly undulating greens. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations on the putting surfaces, which are
Bermuda based with poa trivialis over-seed in the winter.
Golfers will appreciate the great rates (around $50 including cart prime time in 2006) and interesting design, which winds through an upscale residential community. Partial cart
paths make for some quick rounds, and covers on the back of all carts are a nice amenity. For more info on the South Course at Pelican Bay, with direct link to their website - click here.
