Riverview Wilderness Golf & Country Club (941) 776-2691
Florida Golf Course Review
River Wilderness is a Ted McAnlis 18-hole championship facility that is a part of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System, and features rolling fairways that are bordered by
moss draped trees and natural areas. Large intricately shaped sand bunkers, though not plentiful, often flank the large, mildly sloped putting surfaces. There is usually significant
room for recovery for slightly offline tee shots and approaches. Golfers will encounter several forced carries off the tee from the back tee boxes, but this course is very user friendly
from the 4 alternate sets.
In total there are just 24 soft sand bunkers situated near the landing zones or greenside, and water (mostly along the perimeters) comes into play on 12 holes. Very few of the par
fours and fives play straight, so thoughtful shot selection and placement, along with correct length, are keys to scoring well on the longer holes. The course is well marked with
100/150/200 yard markers on the fairways and cart paths. Pin placement charts are posted on each cart with 6 rotating areas for each putting surface.
There are 6 sets of tee boxes - so golfers of all skill levels should be able to choose a set that fits their game. The tips and blue tees present a formidable challenge, with
distances and slope ratings of 7072 yards/136 slope and 6550 yards/130 slope. Alternate tee areas play to distances and slopes measuring 6200 yards/124 slope, 5900
yards/117 slope 5628 yards/111 slope for men and 126 for women, and 5237 yards with a slope of 120 for ladies hitting from the red boxes.
On property is a full service clubhouse with restaurant and lounge, banquet facilities, pro shop. locker rooms with showers and other amenities. Members can enjoy the 3,800
square foot Athletic Center, which offers outstanding fitness, tennis and swimming programs that are geared to the beginner as well as the advanced athlete looking for a healthy
lifestyle. For more info on the course, visit our informational page with map and directions plus direct link to the courses website by clicking here.
