SARASOTA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB (941-496-8676)
Florida golf course review
Sarasota National is one of the top courses in the Sarasota region. This Gordon Lewis championship design is the centerpiece of an exciting new Venice community which is
situated among 2,200 acres of natural Florida landscape with close to 350 acres of lakes.
As a Silver Signature Certified course by Audubon International, Sarasota National's expansive terrain, dotted with palms, pines and oaks, is home to an abundance of native
wildlife. Atypically for a Florida course, the rolling fairways are links inspired -wide and not tree lined. Sand bunkers play a huge roll in the design as 88 sand traps are strategically
situated near the landing zones or greenside.
This course utilizes Tiff Eagle on the greens and Tiff Sport on the tees, fairways and rough - creating consistent and quality playing surfaces. On property is a full service practice
facility with targeted range, short game area with sand bunker plus putting green. Snacks are available in the pro shop - but this is a no frills experience - golfers pay for golf not for
an elaborate clubhouse. There is a "19th Hole" on property for food and drinks.
There are 4 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring a long 7344 yards/136 slope, 6559 yards/129 slope, 6034 yards/121 slope and 5069 with a slope of 117
from the forward tees. This is a challenging round from the tips - and very playable from the alternate tees. Pin placement sheets are mounted on the carts, and the course is well
marked with sprinkler heads and 100, 150, 200 yard markers measured to the center of the green on all par fours and fives.
Water hazards come into play on 10 holes, but are mostly harmless from the front tee area. Safe routes are available, as there are really no forced carries - except from the tips.
Long hitters will appreciate the opportunities to grip it and rip it as three of the par fives measure 560, 608 and 648 yards, with one of the par fours at 489 yards. This is a nice
course at a reasonable price - highly recommended!
