The Savannahs Merritt Island (321) 455-1375
Florida Golf Course Review
The Savannahs on Merritt Island is a classic southern style golf course that meanders through an upscale residential neighborhood on the Space Coast. Featuring beautiful
stands of palm and cypress trees, abundant wildlife and plenty of water, The Savannahs is both classically beautiful as well as challenging
The plantation style clubhouse features a well-stocked golf shop and dining facilities with patio views of the 9th and 18th holes. Practice facilities include an aqua range, a
practice green, practice bunker and pitching green. Golf lessons and group clinics are offered by a PGA professional on staff.
As mentioned, the course is a nicely-planned southern layout and it features 10 holes where water comes into play (7 are located on the front 9), and there are an additional 3
holes where water lines the fairway on the left but would only affect extremely errant shots. There are 24 beautiful white sand bunkers on the course. There are 5 sets of standard
tees measuring 6422 yards/128 slope, 5866 yards/118 slope, 5355 yards/112 slope for men and 120 slope for women, 4857 yards/107 slope for men and 114 slope for women,
and 4491 yards/110 slope for women. There is also an executive family tee box that measures 3581 yards. Yardage disks are located in the middle of the fairways at 250 yards,
200 yards, 150 yards and 100 yards. Daily hole locations are posted and shown on the scorecard. Yardage books are available at check-in.
Golfers will find that most holes at The Savannahs provide ample landing areas off the tee and at approach areas. One exception to this is the par 4 hole number 4 where tee
shots (over water for the gold, black, white and green) must land no closer than 100 yards out to avoid a natural area on the right and water on the left. Then it's on to navigating a
shot over a narrow approach to the smallish green with a bunker penalizing long hits behind it. Most greens are medium in size with only mild undulations. This course provides
a challenging opportunity for experienced long hitters as well as average duffers.
