Streamsong Golf Resort & Spa - Blue Course (888) 294-6322
Florida Golf Course Review
Streamsong in Bowling Green, is one of the most spectacular golf properties in the state. In fact, the rolling sand dunes and elevation changes will make most golfers feel like they
are not in Florida! The 2 championship courses highlight an upscale property (in the middle of nowhere, literally) that features a full scale resort with luxurious hotel, upscale
dining and top notch service and amenities. For those staying at the resort, free shuttle service is provided from the hotel to the clubhouse and back. For more info on the resort,
visit their website by clicking here.
The clubhouse provides outstanding views of the 19th hole, and gives visitors a glimpse of the sand dunes and terrain they will soon be navigating. The 19th hole is a spectacular
par three over water, and can be played at the end of a round or as a warm up hole – a must play especially for first time visitors. On property is a full scale practice facility, with
targeted range, short game area and putting green. The Fifty Nine Restaurant/Lounge is the centerpiece of the luxuriously appointed clubhouse, which also features a pro shop,
banquet/outing facilities and meeting rooms, plus locker rooms with showers.
Walking is encouraged on the 2 traditional layouts. The caddie I spoke with intimated that approximately 60% of golfers visiting walk the course. The caddies are knowledgeable
and friendly, as they provide pin placement info and yardages, as well as assistance with reading the large, undulating and at times, tiered green complexes. Caddies also work
with those driving the course. The layouts intersect at points, but you will know which course you are playing as the Red Course has red flags on the greens, and the Blue Course
has blue flags. The sprinkler heads on both courses have yardages measured to the center of the green.
Golfers will often encounter ample landing zones, but mounding, natural areas, tall native grasses, and a significant amount of waste areas and sand bunkers in various shapes
and sizes, are consistently waiting for offline tee shots and approaches. The fairways are magnificently manicured, and are undulating throughout. There are several water
hazards on each course, providing challenge and aesthetic beauty. With few trees and the wide open spaces, wind can be a significant factor here. The bump and run approach
can be utilized often here, but with many elevated green complexes, the lob wedge can also be used effectively. Most golfers will use every club in their bag before the round is over
.
BLUE COURSE
The photos in this review are of the Blue Course. Hole number one begins from an elevated tee and gives one a nice view of the extremely rolling terrain. The tips play long at 7176
yards and a 134 slope. Alternate sets of tees play from 6698 yards/130 slope, 6285 yards/127 slope ( recommended for the average golfer), and 5531 yards with a slope of 122
from the forward tees. As with the Red Course, there are 4 par fives, 4 spectacular par threes and 10 par fours on this layout. Number seven is one of the most beautiful par threes
you will ever encounter – downhill, over water with a nice walk over a wooden bridge to the green complex. On the par four 14th, you cannot see the water hazard from the tee area
– it fronts the green from about 50 yards out ( another reason the caddies are vital) .
Streamsong is located in central Florida, about a 70 minute drive from Tampa and a little more from the Orlando resort area. It is worth the drive to spend a day here, and you can't
go wrong spending a night or 2 at the fabulous resort. This is a first class experience all the way – and one that is HIGHLY recommended by twoguyswhogolf. For more details,
