Florida Golf Course Review
General information
Walden Lake features 36 holes of championship golf designed by Jack Nicklaus and Ron Garl - located near I-4 and just minutes from downtown Tampa. The two layouts feature
plenty of trees and water, with undulating greens that make this a fair yet challenging golf experience for all levels of players. Both course wind through a residential and industrial
community.
On property is a 27,000 square foot clubhouse that can accommodate up to 300 people for outings and special events. There also is a full service pro shop plus Bogey's
Restaurant, which features spacious seating arrangements and a comfortable lounge. A lunch menu is served daily, as are standard bar items. There are two separate banquet
rooms - one that services 250 people and another that can accommodate 120. Practice facilities include a grass range, short game area with sand bunker plus expansive putting
green. Yardage plates are situated on the fairways at 100, 150 and 200 yards, plus 250 on the par fives. Color coded flags indicate front, middle or back pin placements.
HILLS COURSE
The Hills Course at Walden Lakes features 4 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6698 yards/134 slope, 6131 yards/129 slope, 5677 yards/125 slope and
4760 yards with a slope of 114 from the forward tees. As these slope ratings indicate - for a relatively short course this layout packs some punch. Golfers will encounter some
surprising elevation changes along tree lined fairways with ample landing zones. Water comes into play on 13 holes, and there are 61 sand bunkers located along the fairways or greenside.
The back side is particularly interesting. Numbers 11 and 16 are affected by the same pond and both have sand waste areas in play. The 18th is a great finishing hole, as the tee
shot demands a carry over a lake to a well bunkered fairway, while the approach is uphill to a sloping green complex. The putting surfaces on this layout are large and often sloped
back to front, and the fairways present a mix of open and tightly tee lined driving holes.
The scorecards provide hole diagrams for each course - helpful information fro first time visitors. The rates here are extremely reasonable making this one of the areas better golf
values. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
