WILLOWBROOK GOLF COURSE (863) 291-5899
Florida Golf Course Review
Willowbrook Golf Course in Winter Haven is an 18-hole 6450 yard layout that has been rated 3 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. The course is owned and operated by the city of
Winter Haven, located just south of the Orlando resort area and east of Lakeland. The design features tree lined fairways with ample room off the tee - in a pleasant setting that
invites golfers of all skill levels to hone their game.
On property is a clubhouse with pro shop and restaurant/lounge with seating inside as well as in the screened-in outdoor patio. The burgers are said to be the best around...
Practice facilities consist of a targeted grass range plus putting green, with chipping allowed. With rates that top out at under $40 including cart prime time in 2007, this is a value
golf experience.
There are 4 sets of tees that invite golfers to play from distances and slopes measuring 6450 yards/120 slope, 6106 yards/117 slope, 5530 yards/111 slope for men and 128 for
women, and 5345 yards with a slope rating of 125 for ladies playing from the forward tees. On course yardage markers are posted at 100, 150 and 200 on all par fours and fives,
along with 150 yard stakes on the side of the fairways. The tee boxes of all par threes are marked, and small markers on the flagsticks indicate front, middle or back hole locations.
As the slope ratings indicate, this is a player friendly design, perfect for mid/high handicappers, beginners and family groups. The property is also situated not far from the spring
training complexes of some major league teams, creating an alternative round for those visiting from out of town.
Water comes into play quite frequently - present in the form of ponds or canals that intersect many fairways - on a total of 12 holes. Bunkering is strategic but understated, with
approximately 30 sand traps situated along the landing zones or greenside. The terrain is mildly rolling with small (mostly round) greens built into complexes that are gently raised
. Trees are abundant but not dense.
