GRENELEFE GOLF & TENNIS CLUB South Course (863-422-7511)
Florida Golf Course Review
Grenelefe in Haines City (South of Orlando and the Disney attraction areas) is a 36-hole championship facility featuring two distinctively different golf experiences. This region is
known for its good variety of golf courses - away from the hustle and bustle (and traffic) of the nearby tourist destinations. The courses at Grenelefe were designed in the late
1970's/early 1980's and have undergone recent renovations to improve the overall quality of these interesting designs.
Golfers will not find the upscale amenities provided at many of the resort properties in the Disney area, but they will encounter secluded golf experiences on time-honored tracks
that have previously served as qualifying courses for both the PGA and Senior PGA Tours. Practice facilities are efficient - with a grass range, short game area with sand bunker
plus putting green. Beverage carts make the rounds, and the clubhouse includes a pro shop plus snack bar area and lounge.
SOUTH COURSE
The South Course was designed by Andy Bean and Ron Garl in 1977, and features a fairly level terrain with wide fairways and generous landing zones that are conducive to the
enjoyment of all levels of players. This links style layout is known for its camouflaged bunkers and water hazards that create the need for accuracy and precision both off the tee
and on the approach.
It is a visually beautiful golf experience, and though challenging with a good amount of distance from the back tees, is very playable from the three alternate sets. The greens, while
undulating with several ridged putting surfaces along the way, are large and receptive to a variety of chips and pitches. The tips play to 6869 yards with a slope of 124, while
remaining tee areas measure in distance and slope - 6343 yards/119 slope, 5939 yards/116 slope, and 5174 yards/115 slope.
Both courses are marked with sprinker heads measured to the center of the green as well as each hole is marked with 100, 150 and 200 yard markers on the fairways measured
to the center of the green. All carts include a pin placement sheet including front middle and back hole locations. In total there are 67 sand bunkers situated near the landing zones
or greenside, and 7 holes have water in play in some shape or form.
Rates at Grenelefe are very reasonable - play both and you will find two completely different golf experiences. Special rates are available for groups, and outings and charity golf
tournaments are welcome. This property is just a short drive from Orlando, and the value makes the drive worth while. For more info, visit our page for the course with all the
