LEGENDS GOLF CLUB AT ORANGE LAKE RESORT (407-239-1050)
Florida Golf Course Review
The Legends is a 4-star Arnold Palmer design, and is the premier layout of the Orange Lake Resort. Orange Lake boasts upscale condominium style accommodations, villas and
time share units, along with a full array of amenities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, mini golf, workout facility, meeting/conference areas, dining options and more. The
golf complex features 54 holes of golf - The course - and Legends Walk, a walking only, lighted par-3 golf course - plus 2 driving ranges, Toptracer Range, and the McCord Brown
Golf Teaching Academy. This review features photos and description of the Legends Course. For photos and info about Cranes Bend, Legends Walk, and the new resort course
(The Reserve) - scroll down on this page...
The Legends opened in 1998 with two distinctive nine hole designs - a links open style front nine, plus a back side that features tree lined fairways and some rather formidable
water hazards. The front winds through the resort community, while the finishing nine features seclusion amidst Florida pines, majestic oaks and dense natural areas. Water
comes into play on four holes going out, and on 7 holes coming in and there are over 50 soft sand bunkers/waste areas situated along the fairways or greenside. Hole number 4
on the Links (front nine) is the longest at the Orange Lake complex - a par five that plays to 600 yards.
Five sets of tees afford golfers with opportunities to play to distances and slopes measuring 7072 yards/132 slope, 6665 yards/129 slope, 6263 yards/124 slope, 5780 yards/120
slope and 5188 yards with a 120 slope for women playing from the forward sets. On course 150 yard stakes are visible on all par fours and fives, and 100 and 200 yard blocks are
positioned in the fairways. Pin sheets on the golf carts feature information on hole locations.
Wide fairways along the landscaped, rolling terrain provide significant landing zones on most holes on the Links nine, and the putting surfaces are large and undulating
throughout. The four par threes on this championship course are an interesting group, some with rock retaining walls fronting the greens, which rest beyond treacherous water
hazards. On the back side (Pines nine) golfers will encounter some narrow openings along tightly designed fairways - similar to the classic courses in North Carolina. The
finishing hole on the Legends is the most memorable - a tight 440 yard par four that bends right to left with water to the left and a huge bunker fronting the narrow green complex -
a great finish to a wonderful golf experience.
The Legends features it's own clubhouse with fully stocked pro shop, The Palmer Lounge restaurant, grass driving range, new Toptracer Range, large putting green and a short
game area. Also on property at Orange Lake is a lighted driving range (located in the West Village) plus the McCord-Brown Golf Academy, directed by PGA Master Professional
John Brown. Call 407-239-1050 ext 305 for more information on instructional programs available. For more info on the Legends including direct link to their website visit our page
